High-Level US Delegation to Visit China Next Week

A U.S. delegation led by Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg will visit China next week.

The State Department announced Tuesday that the U.S. delegation will leave on Tuesday for Beijing, where officials from the two countries will discuss the current security situation on the Korean Peninsula among other key regional security issues.

The U.S. delegation is expected to include Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell, U.S. nuclear envoy Sung Kim and Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the National Security Council Jeff Bader.

Steinberg and Bader are expected to return to Washington on Friday after wrapping up their trip to China. Campbell, meanwhile, will visit Tokyo and Kim will head to Seoul on Thursday to brief regional partners on the results of talks between the U.S. and Chinese officials.
