NK Green Lights Gas Pipeline to Run From Russian to S. Korea

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has reportedly approved the construction of a Russian gas pipeline that would run through the North to South Korea.

Victor Ishaev, Russia’s presidential plenipotentiary envoy to the Far East Federal District, says Kim said he is ready to allow the exportation of natural gas through his country if Russia signs an agreement with South Korea to establish the line.

The Russian presidential envoy added that North Korea is not interested in participating in the project. He said the North only wants to receive fees for leasing part of its territory and allowing the pipeline to run through it.

Ishaev accompanied the North Korean leader during his recent trip to Russia.
