Yoshihiko Noda Elected as Japan PM

The chairman of the Democratic Party of Japan Yoshihiko Noda has been elected as Japan's 95th prime minister.

The bicameral Japanese Diet on Tuesday named Noda as the new prime minister following a primary election.

In the House of Representatives, Noda won a majority 308 votes of the 476 valid ballots cast.

The Cabinet led by predecessor Naota Kan held its final meeting on Tuesday and all of its members resigned.
