Obama Submits Pending FTAs to Congress

U.S. President Barack Obama has submitted three pending free trade agreements (FTA) with South Korea, Panama and Colombia to Congress.

After submitting the trade accords on Monday, local time, Obama said the trade deals will greatly expand U.S. exports in the three nations, urging Congress to swiftly pass the deals.

U.S. media said the trade pacts’ submission is the result of close, under-the-table negotiations between the White House and the Republican leadership. The media said that Congress is likely to pass the deals before a South Korea-U.S. summit opens next Thursday unless a significant variable emerges.

Congress’s deliberation of the South Korea-U.S. FTA for ratification comes four years and three months after the two nations adopted the trade accord.
