A Tokyo court has dismissed Japanese publisher Kodansha’s request to suspend the staging of the South Korean musical “200 Pounds Beauty” in Japan.

The court said in a ruling that the South Korean musical did not infringe on the copyright of a best-selling comic book published by Kodansha, noting the different settings and characters between the two works.

On September 14th, the Japanese publishing firm asked the Tokyo District Court to halt the staging of the South Korean musical in Osaka, claiming that its copyright was violated.
