Korean-French Artists Step Up for S. Korean Students in Paris

A federation of Korean artists is putting their paintings up for sale to help fund the building of a dormitory for South Korean students in Paris.

The federation said its holding a special exhibition in Paris from Tuesday to Friday of this week to raise funds for the student dormitory in Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, a private park and foundation that houses 40 dormitories, each representing a different country.

The artists said the exhibition will be jointly organized with the South Korean Embassy in France and South Korea's Permanent Delegation to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). It will take place at the permanent delegation’s office in the French capital.

Twenty Korean-French artists, including Kim Chang-yeol, who is famous for his water drop paintings, and Bang Hye-ja will donate one painting each.

The federation’s announcement came shortly after KBS reported that a plan to build a dormitory for Korean students in the park could collapse as the South Korean government has failed to draw up a budget for the project even though France has offered to provide a plot of land for free.
