Libya Declares Liberation

Libya's transitional government officially declared the country's liberation Sunday after 42 years of one-man rule under Muammar Gadhafi.

The declaration comes eight months after democratic uprisings against the Gadhafi regime began and three days after the dictator's death.

The head of the Libyan Transitional National Council Mustafa Abdel Jalil announced that steps will begin to establish a new democratic government based on Islamic law.

But whether the government building will advance smoothly is unclear amid budding signs of tribal and factional divisions.

Observers say this explains the delay in the declaration of liberation and the discord over what to do with Gadhafi's corpse.
