US-NK High-level Talks 'Moving in a Positive Direction'

U.S. special envoy to North Korea says some progress has been made on the first day of high-level North Korea-U.S. talks in Geneva.

U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy Stephen Bosworth told reporters in the Swiss city Monday he thinks the U.S. and the North “are moving in a positive direction,” following his talks with the North’s delegation that is being led by First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-kwan.

Bosworth also said the two sides “have narrowed some differences” but still have differences that need to be resolved. He added that the U.S.’s goal is to find a solid foundation on which to launch a resumption of bilateral and multilateral discussions with the North.

Bosworth said he is neither optimistic nor pessimistic about the two-day talks, which mark the second round of high-level dialogue the U.S. has held with North Korea this year.
