S. Korea, China's Top Nuke Envoys Meet in Beijing

South Korea and China’s top nuclear negotiators have held discussions in Beijing regarding the six-party nuclear talks.

South Korea’s top nuclear envoy Lim Sung-nam and his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei met at the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday and discussed the results of the second round of high-level talks between North Korea and the U.S. The two officials also discussed ways to resume the stalled six-nation talks.

Ahead of their discussions, Wu told Lim he hopes the new South Korean nuclear negotiator will bring vibrancy to the six-nation nuclear talks.

Lim reportedly underlined South Korea’s stance that in order to reopen the stalled nuclear negotiations, the North must meet preconditions for its denuclearization, including suspending its uranium enrichment program.

The South Korean envoy also spoke on the second round of high-level North Korea-U.S. talks. He said although the dialogue created a mood of cooperation, there is a need to closely monitor the North’s future moves given the high-level discussions failed to provide a breakthrough in reopening the six-way talks.
