Unification Minister Yu Woo-ik has met with U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and discussed South Korea’s policies regarding North Korea.
During their meeting in Washington on Wednesday, Yu said Seoul is maintaining the basic principles of its policies concerning the North. He added the government is all the while exercising flexibility in terms of exchanges between religious groups and offering humanitarian aid in a bid to ease inter-Korean tensions and seek a dialogue channel.
In response, Ros-Lehtinen expressed support toward Seoul’s position.
They shared the view that the South Korean government and the U.S. government and Congress should further cooperate in policies regarding the North and unification.
Yu stressed at the meeting that the government is exerting special efforts to secure funds for unification and ways to support North Korean escapees settling in South Korea.
