UM: Seoul to Provide Humanitarian Aid for NK

Unification Minister Yu Woo-ik says the South Korean government will review providing aid to North Korea via international organizations.

Yu made his remark during talks with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York on Sunday where the UN chief raised the issue of the food situation in North Korea and the need to resume aid.

Yu, however, limited the prospect of food aid to the North by saying he would consider providing food for North Korean infants and vulnerable people, and hinted at his intention to maintain the spirit of the South Korean government's sanctions on North Korea.

Seoul imposed a ban on inter-Korean trade and exchanges in May of last year following North Korea's torpedoing of the South's Navy vessel "Cheonan."
