Japanese Parliament to Approve Nuke Treaties

A Japanese daily reports that the National Diet of Japan will approve nuclear energy agreements with four countries early next month.

The Mainichi Shimbun said the ruling Democratic Party of Japan and the main opposition Liberal Democratic Party agreed to approve nuclear power agreements with South Korea, Russia, Jordan and Vietnam during an extra session that will run until December ninth.

The Japanese government has called for swift approval of those agreements, saying they are necessary for Japan to export technologies to build nuclear power plants overseas.

The Japanese parliament had delayed a review of the agreements since a nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant following a massive earthquake in March this year.

South Korea and Japan signed a nuclear power agreement in December last year.
