President Lee Myung-bak has met with an advisory group established for the successful hosting of the Nuclear Security Summit next March and urged it to proactively contribute to the summit to serve as a meaningful milestone in preventing nuclear terrorism.
At a luncheon Tuesday with the group dubbed the“Seoul Nuclear Security Summit Eminent Persons Group,” Lee said in international security as of late, keeping terrorists away from nuclear weapons is as important as keeping problem countries from developing nuclear weapons.
The group expressed strong support for the summit and advised that making tangible progress in commitments made in the first summit in Washington is of the most importance.
The group is comprised of 15 Korean and foreign experts on international security and atomic energy, including former Indian President Abdul Kalam, Singapore’s Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, former Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, former International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Hans Blix and former Foreign Minister Han Seung-joo.
