S.Korea: Moroccan Election Exemplary for Democratization

The South Korean government said that Morocco’s first parliamentary election would provide an exemplary case for other nations seeking democratization and reform.

Public protests as part of the Arab Spring in February 2011 led King Mohammed the Sixth to announce a process of constitutional reform granting new civil rights.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho Byung-jae said in a regular briefing on Tuesday that the November 25 parliamentary election in Morocco was held fairly and transparently according to the new Constitution adopted by a referendum in July.

The ministry spokesman stressed that he hopes that the reforms pushed for by King Mohammed the Sixth to successfully continue to accelerate democratization and commitment to reform.
