Dozens of Iranian youths broke into the British Embassy in Tehran on Tuesday as part of an anti-Britain protest.
According to Fars News Agency, young men entered the embassy and another diplomatic compound in Tehran. The news agency reported the protestors threw rocks and Molotov cocktails and burnt documents that they stole from embassy offices.
At one point, there were reports that six British diplomats were sequestered inside a building in Britain's diplomatic compound, but it was later confirmed that all embassy staff had evacuated the compound before the protesters dashed onto the grounds.
The protest came after the British government unveiled on Monday new sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program. The move followed the release of a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency this month that suggested that Iran is conducting activities to develop nuclear weapons.
Shortly after Britain announced the new sanctions, Iran’s parliament voted to consider expelling Britain's ambassador to Iran.
