SK, Japan to Jointly Respond to Chinese Fishing Vessels

The Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Food Ministry says South Korea and Japan will jointly respond to the issue of Chinese ships deliberately interfering with South Korean and Japanese boats fishing in Russian waters.

The two nations coordinated this stance at a working-level meeting on supervising their fishing operations held in Tokyo, Japan for two days beginning November 30.

At the meeting, South Korea demanded the prevention of recurrence of a Japanese fishing vessel inflicting damage on fishing equipment of South Korean crab fishing boats in waters south of Jeju Island.

Japan requested supervision of disputes along off-shore long liners and prevention of illegal fishing by South Korean ships in the Japanese exclusive economic zone (EEZ) near the middle of the East Sea.

The two nations agreed to actively supervise their country's fishing vessels.
