Terrorist Attacks Kill 58 in Afghanistan

A suicide bombing killed 54 people and injured 160 at a mosque in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Tuesday.

Local police said the bomber detonated the explosives at the entrance of the mosque.

Another blast killed four people at a mosque in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif later that day.

The attacks apparently targeted Afghanistan’s minority Shiite Muslims who were marking the Ashura day of mourning at mosques. The day commemorates the killing of Prophet Mohammed's grandson, Imam Hussein, during a war between Sunni and Shiite sects in the seventh century.
