Russian Opposition to Take Legal Action against Election Outcome

Russia’s opposition party has announced it will take legal action to nullify the outcome of the parliamentary elections held on December fourth.

Opposition party supporters have been protesting the victory of the ruling United Russia Party in the nation's recent general elections, which have been marred by suspicions of voting irregularities.

According to Russia’s Itar Tass News Agency, the liberal opposition Yabloko Party quoted reports from election monitors saying that half of its votes were stolen and it will file a suit with the court to annul the results of the election.

The opposition party added other political parties that won parliamentary seats are also raising allegations of polling fraud. It added that it will call for the Central Election Commission head’s resignation and join civic movements to invalidate the election outcome.
