Russian Media Cover Anti-Putin Protests over Election Fraud

Protests continue in Russia against alleged electoral fraud in the nation's recently held general elections.

Roughly 40-thousand people gathered in Bolotnaya Square in Moscow on Sunday and called for Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's resignation over vote fixing allegations. The protests Sunday were the biggest in the nation's history since the fall of the former Soviet Union.

As many as 200-thousand Russians took part in demonstrations in about 60 cities throughout the nation.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev broke his two days of silence and wrote on his Facebook that he does not consent to the protesters' demands but he will order officials to thoroughly check reports of election fraud.

Meanwhile, state-owned Russian TV stations closely covered news of the protests, and police did not press any particular sanctions on the protesters.
