Air Canada Faces Class Action Suit Over Seating Fares

Canada’s largest airline company Air Canada will face a class action suit over its former policy of collecting extra fares from obese passengers.

The Superior Court of Quebec Monday allowed travelers who paid extra for seats on Air Canada flights to file a class action lawsuit against the airline company.

The suitors will seek to have Air Canada pay damages and reimburse the extra fares they paid for three years from 2005.

Canada’s major airline companies previously charged obese passengers fares for two seats, but in 2008, the practice was outlawed by the Canada Transportation Agency. The agency ordered Canadian airlines to charge only a single fare for disabled or obese passengers who need a two-seat accommodation.
