Benghazi Citizens Protest Transitional National Council

Tens of thousands of Libyans have held a massive rally in the eastern city of Benghazi where demonstrations against Muammar Gadhafi and his regime first took place in February this year.

Up to 30-thousand people took to the streets in Benghazi Monday, local time, to express complaints about Libya’s Transitional National Council.

Protesters criticized the interim government for failing to give the city the consideration they say it deserves as the epicenter of the anti-Gadhafi movement. They also complained about the lack of transparency and the slow-paced democratization of the nation.

In an attempt to pacify protesters, the Transitional National Council designated Benghazi as the economic capital and promised to station related ministers there.
