The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a bill on strengthening sanctions against North Korea.
The U.S. House endorsed the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Reform and Modernization Act of 2011 in a plenary session on Wednesday, local time. The act was passed by the House committee on foreign affairs last month.
The act requires the U.S. administration to report to Congress information on foreign person that transports banned materials to or from Iran, North Korea, or Syria. It also requires the administration report on foreign person who acquires mineral resources in the three nations for the purpose of aiding those countries weapons of mass destruction programs.
The administration also has to deliver its reports to Congress every four months under the act, as opposed to the current policy of delivering reports every six months.
The act also expands sanctions to other foreign countries or persons that do business with Iran, North Korea or Syria.
