Iran Begins Enriching Uranium at New Site

The International Atomic Energy Agency says Iran has begun uranium enrichment at a new underground site.

IAEA spokeswoman Gill Tudor said Iran has started enriching uranium to the 20-percent level in its Fordo Fuel Enrichment Plant. She added that all nuclear materials and operations in the Fordo facility are under the IAEA’s containment and surveillance.

Prior to the IAEA confirmation, an Arabic-language broadcaster said Iranian ambassador to the IAEA Ali-Asghar Soltanieh confirmed a news report about the start of Iran’s uranium enrichment at an underground facility in the northern part of the country.
