Japan Not to Ask S. Korea to Hand Over Embassy Attacker

Japan’s Kyodo News reports the Japanese government is not considering asking South Korea to hand over a Chinese man who recently threw Molotov cocktails at the Japanese Embassy in Seoul.

The news agency said Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura told reporters Wednesday that Tokyo will not ask Seoul for the transfer of the man.

However, calls are coming from within Japan for the handover of the Chinese man who claims he set a fire at the entrance of the Yasukuni Shrine late last year.

Fujimura said that the Chinese man’s involvement in the Yasukuni arson is unproven and unclear. He added that the Japanese government is closely watching the South Korean police investigation into the man's attack on the embassy.
