Korean Ancient History Sees Continued Distortion by Chinese

China’s state-run CCTV has broadcast a documentary claiming the Korean ancient dynasty of Balhae was China’s provincial government, as proclaimed by an emperor during the Tang Dynasty.

CCTV aired the six episode program every Saturday from early November to mid-December last year, saying that Balhae was a state founded by the Malgal Tribe, an ethnic minority that lived in China’s northeastern region.

The documentary called "Mount Baekdu" showed a scene where Daejoyoung, the founder of Balhae, kneeled down to an envoy sent by Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty.

The program is a reflection of China's alleged historical distortions, which first began in 1996.
