Chinese Premier Stresses Dialogue, Cooperation with US

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has stressed that China and the U.S. should respect the core interests and concerns of each other and resolve friction appropriately.

China’s state-run English newspaper China Daily reported that the Chinese premier made the remarks in a meeting with visiting U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner in Beijing on Wednesday.

In the meeting, Wen also said that dialogue is better than confrontation and cooperation is better than containment.

The newspaper said the premier’s remarks come amid the U.S.’ mounting pressure on China to appreciate its currency and an ongoing economic and trade dispute between the two countries.
