AP Opens News Bureau in Pyongyang

The Associated Press has opened a news bureau in Pyongyang, North Korea.

The U.S. media agency on Monday held a ceremony to mark the launch of its newest bureau, which is located inside the headquarters of the state-run North Korea Central News Agency in downtown Pyongyang.

The bureau is an expansion of an existing video division, which opened in May 2006 and only distributed images. With the newest bureau, AP will be the first international news agency to distribute stories, video and photos.

AP will station two North Korean reporters at the Pyongyang bureau to deliver stories on the North.
