Granddaughter of Titanic Survivor Escapes Wrecked Cruise Liner

The granddaughter of a Titanic survivor is now herself a survivor after escaping from the cruise ship Costa Concordia that ran aground off the coast of an Italian island last Friday.

The 30-year-old woman escaped from the ill-fated cruise ship with her fiancé and brother immediately after the wreck occurred.

She said in a news interview she was shocked, and the cruise tragedy conjured up thoughts about the Titanic.

Her grandmother was one of the survivors from the British luxury passenger liner that sank in April, 1912, en route to New York City from Southampton, England, during its maiden voyage. Fifteen-hundred lives were lost in the catastrophe.
