World Social Forum 2012 to Open in Brazil Next Week

This year’s World Social Forum will open in Brazil on Monday for a six-day run through January 28th.

The 12th World Social Forum is expected to bring together up to 50-thousand civic activists from around the world to discuss the crisis of capitalism, and social and environmental justice.

The forum was launched by civil society organizations as an alternative to the World Economic Forum in Davos. The first World Social Forum was held in Brazil in 2001.

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff is expected to attend this year’s gathering.
