U.S. space agency NASA has announced that the largest solar storm in seven years began to reach Earth Tuesday, local time.

The U.S. government has urged for extra caution in managing communication networks, electricity and airplane operations.

Some U.S. airlines said they recoordinated routes for flights that pass through high-altitude regions out of concerns that planes could be affected by high levels of radiation from the solar storm.

NASA projected that the largest solar storm ever is likely to come in 2013 and result in damages estimated to reach two trillion dollars.
