The Defense Ministry has reportedly offered to import one billion dollars worth of Israeli defense equipment if Israel buys South Korea’s T-50 Golden Eagle training aircraft as next-generation trainer jets for its Air Force.
The online edition of Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that a delegation of South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration visited Israel a few weeks ago and proposed the defense contract under which South Korea will introduce around one billion and 60-million dollars worth of Israeli defense equipment. The equipment would include radar systems and the mobile air defense system, Iron Dome, which is used to intercept short-range missiles.
Israel is considering the purchase of some 20 trainer aircraft worth a total of one billion dollars. It is known to make a choice between Korea’s T-50 Golden Eagle trainer jet and Italy's M-346 Master.
South Korea has reportedly pressed Israel over the deal by saying it would cancel all defense contracts with Israel if the deal on the trainer jets collapses.
