IMF: Some G20 Countries Face Growing Deflation Risk

The International Monetary Fund is warning that the risk of deflation has increased in some G20 countries amid the prolonged euro zone debt crisis.

Reuters said the IMF delivered the warning in a document submitted to a G20 gathering held in Mexico last week.

The IMF said in the document that the pressure of inflation has decreased due to a drop in demand. It warned that some G20 countries would slip into deflation if economic growth is lower than expected and production is significantly insufficient.

The IMF added that if the warning is proven true, debt-ridden countries will be hit the hardest.
