Japan to Partially Give Up Its Fight Against Radiation Pollution

The Japanese government is expected to give up its efforts to reduce pollution in regions with more than 50 millisieverts of radiation around the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

Japan’s Asahi Shimbun reported that the Ministry of Environment announced its schedule to lower the level of radioactive materials near ground zero of last March's nuclear disaster.

The Japanese government aims to reduce radiation pollution to 20 millisieverts in areas with less than 50 millisieverts of radiation in order to provide a residential-friendly environment by March 2014.

However, the daily reported areas with over 50 millisieverts of radiation will be excluded from the plan, as current technology cannot reduce such highly polluted areas.
