Samsung Electronics sold the most smartphones in the world last year.

According to IHS iSuppli, Samsung Electronics sold roughly 95 million smartphones globally in 2011, exceeding Apple, which sold about 93 million smartphones last year.

However, Apple championed the market in the fourth quarter last year selling 37 million smartphones, while Samsung sold 36 million.

Strategy Analytics analysts also said Samsung led the industry in smartphone sales last year, selling a total of 97-point-five million.
