Freezing Weather Kills 89 in Eastern Europe

A cold snap has left 89 people dead across Eastern Europe.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Fuel and Energy said 43 people have died over the past five days, as the temperature plunged to a six-year low.

Eight people died in Bulgaria and 14 in Romania amid a temp of minus 30 degrees Celsius.

Europe’s weather alert network has warned that the freeze could put several Eastern European regions at a serious risk. It predicted the frigid weather will persist in the southeastern part of Europe but may expand to other regions such as Germany.
