Greek Party Leaders Oppose Loan Deals

The prime minister of Greece has failed to agree with Greek political party leaders on terms presented by international lenders for a second bailout.

Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos held an emergency meeting Sunday on austerity policies and draconian economic reforms for an international aid package. Papademos met with leaders from the Socialist party, the conservative New Democracy party and the small nationalist party Laos.

They discussed the issue for five hours but failed to reach a compromise. Papademos sought to obtain support from the political leaders for the loan conditions attached by the European Union and international lenders.

However, the prime minister’s office said Papademos and political leaders agreed on comprehensive issues that form a basis for Greece to receive a second bailout, such as wage cuts.
