Death Toll from Extreme Cold Weather in Europe Stands at 450

A total of 450 people are estimated to have died throughout Europe as an intense cold snap has plagued the area for over a week.

Within the past 24 hours, six people died in Poland and four in Hungary as the temperature in parts of Europe fell below minus 30 degrees Celsius.

In Bulgaria, eight people died and two are missing after swollen rivers burst their banks from the heavy snowfall. The flood wave crossed the border and spread into parts of northern Greece. The Greek government has declared a state of emergency for the affected region and is conducting efforts to evacuate residents there.

In Romania, transportation has been cut off in 146 villages due to the freezing weather and heavy snowfall. Some villages have also been cut off from electricity.
