US, Chinese VPs Hold Talks by Phone

The White House says U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has stressed the importance of building a U.S.-China relationship that addresses practical issues important to both countries.

The U.S. presidential office said Biden urged the relationship during a phone call with China’s Vice President Xi Jinping on Tuesday. It added the U.S. vice president expressed support for efforts to further develop bilateral cooperation.

The White House said the two leaders previewed the agenda for Xi's visit to the U.S. next week, from economic and trade issues to regional and global developments.

Xi is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama during his stay in the U.S. The two countries are also expected to discuss the resumption of the six-way nuclear talks and their policies toward North Korea following the death of the late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.
