Chinese Officials Fired for Failing to Control Social Unrest in Tibet

Chinese authorities have dismissed three officials in an autonomous region of Tibet for failing to suppress social unrest in the embattled area.

The Tibet Daily reports that an official of Tibet’s autonomous district announced the dismissals in a meeting earlier this week and emphasized the importance of strengthening crackdowns on Tibetan separatists.

The daily said the officials were apparently relieved of their posts for leaving office without prior notification during the Lunar New Year holidays.

Meanwhile, it is still unknown whether the Tibetan man who set himself on fire Wednesday is alive.
