Teenage Tibetan Monk Sets Fire to Himself in Protest of China

A humanitarian group says a teenage Tibetan monk has set himself on fire in an apparent protest against China.

The “Free Tibet” group said the 19-year-old monk named “Lobsang Gyatso” set himself ablaze on Monday in the town of Ngaba, Sichuan Province.

The group said Chinese state security forces extinguished the flames on his body and forcibly took him away.

Gyatso is the 24th Tibetan monk to self-immolate since February, 2009. It is presumed that at least 15 of the 24 monks to commit the act have died.
