The son of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has been named the chairman of a large Chinese state-run telecom corporation, propelling rumors of a parachute appointment.

The semi-official China News Service reported that the premier’s son, Wen Yunsong, was appointed the chairman of China Satellite Communications in the company’s board of directors’ meeting on Tuesday.

China Satellite Communications is one of the six leading telecommunications-infrastructure enterprises in China.

Floods of messages criticizing the junior Wen for basking in his father’s power and becoming the chairman of a telecom giant at a young age have been posted on Sina Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter.

Chinese news outlets reported the young Wen’s appointment without mention of his father.
