Anchor: With only one month left before the opening of the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit, the South Korean government is gearing up to host a successful event. Our Jang Souie has the story.
Report: The organizing committee of the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit will hold a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik on Friday to discuss summit agendas, protocol and promotional ideas for a successful event.
Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan, who is the head of the organizing committee, will report on the committee’s progress and derive an effective system to ensure cooperation among ministers and heads of private institutions.
The nuclear summit will be held on March 26th and 27th at Seoul’s COEX Center and is expected to be one of the world’s largest diplomatic events with the participation of 53 heads of state and four international organizations, including the United Nations and the European Union.
The organizing committee says except for the UN General Assembly, in which 192 member countries take part, the summit will be one of the largest gatherings of nations. Around ten-thousand people are expected to be involved, including four-thousand government delegates.
As the host country, South Korea has taken the lead in setting agendas for the text of the “Seoul Communiqué,” which will be the resulting document of the summit.
During last month's Sherpa Meeting in India for the Seoul event, members agreed on controversial issues in regards to the text of the communique such as minimizing the use of highly enriched uranium and plutonium and safe management of nuclear and radioactive materials.
The Sherpas will meet a day before the official summit to confirm the text for the draft of the communiqué.
