U.S. to Allow S. Korea to Import Non-oil Products from Iran

A South Korean government delegation returned from the U.S. on Friday with news that Washington will exempt South Korea from its recent sanctions on Iran except for crude oil imports.

A government official was quoted as saying that South Korea will be allowed to import non-oil products from Iran through Korean government owned or controlled banks.

Regarding the reduction of crude oil imports from the Middle Eastern country, the South Korean government thoroughly explained the nation’s situation to the U.S. and said it will gradually cut imports while taking global oil prices into consideration.

The delegation first arrived in Washington on Wednesday to discuss the sanctions.
