Counterfeit iPhone Sales Rise in US

The New York Times reports that the sale of fake iPhones is on the rise not only in China and other developing countries but in the U.S. as well.

Knockoff versions of Apple gadgets are being sold across the U.S. In California, thousands of fake iPhones were found in 2010 and last year.

Earlier this month, New York police raided a cell phone store on West 28th Street and seized knockoffs of the iPhone, iPad and iPod. The large inventory of fake electronics included 436 iPhones, 21 iPads and 128 iPods.

New York police acquired a search warrant for the West 28th Street store, based on information that fake iPhones sold in New York came from that seller.

An Apple employee confirmed that they were all fakes.
