Two Koreas' Nuke Envoys to Attend Seminar in US Next Week

The top nuclear negotiators of the two Koreas will attend a seminar on Korean Peninsula affairs in the U.S. next week.

U.S. State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters Thursday that North Korea’s top nuclear envoy, Ri Yong-ho, will attend a seminar at Syracuse University in the state of New York next Tuesday.

Attention is being drawn to whether the nuclear envoys of the two Koreas will meet on the sidelines of the conference as South Korea’s chief delegate to the six-way nuclear talks, Lim Sung-nam, will be in observance.

The upcoming event is being organized by Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg served as dean of the school until last year.

A diplomatic source in Washington says Ri is scheduled to stay in the U.S. for a week starting from Tuesday.
