US, NK Hold Food Aid Talks in Beijing

The U.S. and North Korea opened talks in Beijing Wednesday over the provision of food aid to the North.

The U.S. delegation is headed by Special Envoy for North Korean human rights issues, Robert King.

The two sides are discussing a schedule for the delivery of aid, the type of aid, and how to monitor its distribution in North Korea.

The talks are being held at both North Korea’s embassy and the U.S.’s embassy in Beijing, and the two sides may extend the meeting for one more day if necessary.

In their third round of high-level talks in Beijing in late February, the U.S. agreed to provide 240-thousand tons of food-aid to North Korea, and in return, the North promised to temporarily suspend its nuclear activities.
