Japan Posts Record Current Account Deficit in Jan.

Japan's current account deficit surged in January on the back of sluggish exports and rising energy imports.

Japan’s Ministry of Finance said the nation posted a record current account deficit of more than 437 billion yen in the first month of the year, the largest since 1985.

It is the first time in three years Japan has posted a shortfall in January.
