Seven high-ranking Chinese officials were investigated by prosecutors on corruption charges, such as bribery and embezzlement, last year in an anticorruption crackdown.

China’s Procurator-General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), Cao Jianming, said that 198 senior government officials were investigated by prosecutors for corruption last year, and of them, seven were ministerial-level officials or provincial governors.

He made the remarks in a work report he delivered at the annual National People’s Congress on Sunday.

He also noted that 25 ministerial-level officials and provincial governors were punished on corruption charges over the past four years.
