Kyodo: Japan to Extend Sanctions on N. Korea

The Japanese government is reportedly planning to extend its economic sanctions on North Korea by an extra year.

According to Kyodo News Monday, Japan’s Cabinet will hold a meeting on March 30th or April third and extend the deadline on its sanctions on the North by an additional year.

Japan’s sanctions on North Korea are set to expire on April 13th.

The sanctions ban North Korean ships from entering Japanese ports and prohibit the import of all goods from North Korea.

Japan has extended the sanctions seven times. Japan first imposed the sanctions in 2006 in protest of the North’s missile and nuclear tests.
