S.Korea Among Countries Under Surveillance in Internet Freedom

The international journalism association “Reporters Without Borders” has put South Korea on its list of states under surveillance for the fourth consecutive year in terms of freedom of expression on and access to the Web.

South Korea was put on the list of countries under surveillance along with Egypt and Russia.
“Countries under surveillance” is a different category from the “enemies of the Internet" list which names nations that oppress freedom of expression on and access to the Internet.

In its annual report released on Monday, the association has once again named North Korea as an enemy of the Internet, pointing out that the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il was not known for two days until the North Korean Central Television reported it.

The association’s enemies list contains 12 nations, including North Korea, China, Myanmar, Iran, Cuba and Vietnam.
